Sanjeevani is an integrated telemedicine solution utilizing computers and communication technologies for the purpose of medical diagnosis, patient care, expert consultation and medical education.Sanjeevani was developed as part of telemedicine project sponsored by Department of Information Technology,Government of India.
Features of Sanjeevani :
GUI : Sanjeevani supports GUI,which makes the application easy to use and interactive.Clinical Reports : Sanjeevani will support the transmission of the pathological reports like Urine, Stool, Haematology and Biochemistry EPR : A comprehensive Electronic Patient Record with demographics such as Name, Age, Sex, Address etc. The database of a patient stores the physiological parameters like BP, Heart rate, and Temperature. It stores, Family History, Personal history of the patient. The Patient records can be sorted with respect to the patient ID, name, sex and date.Scanner/Digital camera interface : Sanjeevani will offer an interface for standard TWAIN sources like Scanners, Digital camera (Video/still). The module enables direct capture of images from scanners and cameras supporting TWAIN.ECG : Sanjeevani should capture, display and store 12-lead ECG for patients.GUI : Sanjeevani supports GUI,which makes the application easy to use and interactiveMedical Images : Digitized films/outputs from imaging modalities like X-Ray machine, Ultrasound scanner, CT scan, MRI, Gamma Camera can be displayed, archived and retrieved in jpg, and DICOM formats.Image Enhancer : The non-DICOM digitized images can be viewed and enhanced by the user for their brightness, contrast, zoom, region of interest annotation etc, to enhance the images captured or received from the far end.HL7 : Sanjeevani supports HL7 version 2.3.1 standard (HL7), which provides standards for the exchange, management and integration of data that supports clinical patient care and the management, delivery and evaluation of healthcare services. Specifically, to create flexible, cost effective approaches, standards, guidelines, methodologies, and related services for interoperability between healthcare information systems.DICOM Support : Sanjeevani supports The Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM). It is a Standard, a set of rules that allows exchange of images and associated information between imaging machines, computers & hospitals.Peripherals : The medical peripherals like Electronic Stethoscope, Spirometer, and Ophthalmoscope can be integrated into the application.Communications : Sanjeevani should work on LAN (10/100 Mbps) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital network) 128 Kbps.Video Conferencing : Sanjeevani will support Video conferencing. Video conferencing uses compressed digital images transmitted over wide area networks or the Internet. Sanjeevani will also support standard MS Net-meeting.Security and Consistency : Sanjeevani host at the remote end will authenticates and verifies whether a connection is authorized to connect to the host Sanjeevani site. We have applied encryption algorithms to secure medical data we have used SHA1 algorithm, which is fast, and secure. For Consistency of patient’s data, hashing is used in which a hash key is generated every time patient data is sent and it is evaluated at other end to check if the data received is the data sent and it also ensures that the data received is correct and consistent.Help : Users are provided with the help In case they find any difficulty in using the system.Online Store and Forward : When both the sender and receiver is active, Sanjeevani can send and receive online patient data.Single Point entry for Operation through user name and password.Secured Environment through Encryption and VPN ( Virtual Private Networks).
Implementation of Sanjeevani in India
Implementation of Sanjeevani in Punjab
Our telemedicine solution Sanjeevani deploys successfully in the rural areas of Punjab in india via Community Health Centers(CHC), Primary Health Centers(PHC), General/District Hospitals and Punjab Health System Corporation Centre. In order to implement the telemedicine solution in particular location, we need a Telemedicine Center. Telemedicine Solutions assist in delivery of specialized medical care and treatment from the multi-specialty hospital and medical colleges to civil hospitals & CHC/PHC using IT tools and telecommunication links. Telemedicine connectivity from PGI Chandigarh will also be provided to this Telemedicine Network. In this connection, it is brought out that PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS New Delhi, PGI Lucknow, IGMC Shimla, SCB Medical college Cuttack and PGI Rohtak are connected by C-DAC. This will involve provisioning of basic medical diagnostic equipment like ECG for heart cardiograms, Microscope for pathological images, BP Meter, Glucometer and Scanners for scanning X-Ray, ultrasound and CT scan images, computer workstations and 512 kbps of telecommunication link at each CHC/PHC/hospital. Hospitals and Telemedicine Centre of Punjab Health Systems Corporation will require more number of workstations and servers. It is proposed to implement the project in phases.
Implementation of Sanjeevani in Himachal Pradesh
The rural areas are being served by a network of Community and Primary Health Centres. This can be done very successfully by deploying the telemedicine solution at CHC/PHC, General Hospitals and IGMC Shimla. Telemedicine Solutions assist in delivery of specialized medical care and treatment from the multi-specialty hospital to CHCs/PHCs using IT Tools and telecommunication links. In this connection, it is brought out that IGMC Shimla is being connected with PGI Chandigarh by C-DAC. PGI Chandigarh is already connected with AIIMS New Delhi and PGI Lucknow. In view of the above, it has been proposed to develop and deploy a customized telemedicine solution for the rural areas of the Himachal Pradesh in India. This will involve provisioning of basic medical diagnostic equipment like ECG for heart cardiograms, Microscope for pathological images and Scanners for scanning X-Ray, ultrasound and CT scan images, computer workstations and 386 kbps of telecommunication link at each CHC/PHC/hospital. Hospitals and IGMC Shimla will require more number of workstations and servers.
Implementation of Sanjeevani Overseas
C-DAC Mohali in India recently got the opportunity to be a part of an international Project “Setting up of Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills at Yangon Myanmar” for developing a centre of IT at the University of Computer Studies, Yangon Myanmar with the collaboration of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). C-DAC Mohali in India has made a preliminary assessment of the resources required for establishing a centre of IT. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will provide funding for IT infrastructure and C-DAC will provide an integrated telemedicine solution for Telemedicine Consultancy between CEITS (Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills) and CIC (Community Information System) for the purpose of medical diagnosis, patient care, expert consultation and medical education. In pursuance to the visit, the Government of India set up a Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills (CEITS) for teaching Information Technology at Myanmar. In this context, MEA has requested C-DAC to depute an IT expert team to Myanmar for carrying out the feasibility for the proposed IT Centre during 4th-8th June 2007. After detailed deliberations with various Ministries, Departments and Institutions in Myanmar, it was perceived that there is need for setting up of Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills (CEITS) in Myanmar. This CEITS will be equipped with the state of the art IT infrastructure and will connect to India through video conferencing. The CEITS will also connect to 10 CICs spread in Myanmar through VSAT.These CICs are proposed to impart Telemedicine Solution, Distance Education & General Awareness Program.
C-DAC Mohali will also provide “Setting up of Centre for Enhancement of IT Skills at Tanzania.” Centre for Excellnce in ICT at Dar es Salaam.
